Rifle Hunting

Rifle hunting gives you a chance for challenging pursuits amidst diverse landscapes. Your encounters with iconic wildlife species will create lasting, thrilling memories and land exceptional trophies.

As the hunter, you decide on the weapon you will use, but we will advise you on the legal requirements and recommend the caliber and ammunition best suited to your hunt. We offer a dedicated shooting range with sighting equipment for the mandatory sighting of rifles and to ascertain every hunter’s shooting ability.

  • Opt for a weapon with a conventional bolt action. South Africa prohibits the temporary importation of semi-repeating weapons for hunting, and no semi-repeating weapons may be brought into the country.
  • Shots will range between 80 to 180 yards. We recommend calibers ranging from .270 Winchester to .338 for general plains game safaris, with .270 being the legal minimum caliber for plains game in South Africa.
  • In the case of dangerous game, we recommend a minimum caliber of .375, the legal minimum for dangerous game in South Africa. We recommend using a caliber common in South Africa, as ammunition may be obtained in South Africa if needed.
  • We recommend a minimum of 60 cartridges per caliber.

AFRICAN BOW HUNTING

Bow hunting lends itself to exciting stalks, and we offer this opportunity from hides at water points or other suitable terrain. The correct equipment is essential for the bow hunter. We offer archery practice before the hunt to ensure your bow is well-aligned and fit for purpose.

  • We recommend hunting with a bow of no less than 60 pounds for general plains game. We recommend a fast bow, shooting arrows of about 400 grains or heavier, capable of providing 40ft/lbs of kinetic energy, and arrows of a minimum weight of 400 grains.
  • Broadhead choice is up to the hunter, but we have succeeded with mechanical and fixed blade broadheads of two to three blades.

HUNTING FACILITIES

Our dedicated shooting range is a great resource, allowing you to sight your rifles and fine-tune your marksmanship in consultation with your professional hunter in a controlled and safe environment. This will benefit your overall hunting experience, as your professional hunter will discuss techniques and strategies based on your proficiencies. This meticulous preparation contributes to a more enjoyable and confident game  hunting expedition. It sets the stage for a successful pursuit, aligning the hunter’s skills with the challenges our game species present.

Our hides provide bow hunters exceptional opportunities uniquely tailored to the sparse and rugged terrain. Positioned strategically close to water points, these hides optimize the bow hunter’s advantage by capitalizing on the terrain’s natural features. The sparse vegetation and undulating landscapes in the Karoo demand heightened stealth and patience, making these hides ideal for close encounters with elusive species such as kudu and gemsbok.

This is where your trophy will be processed in hygienic conditions and to the highest standards. Rest assured that the utmost attention to detail and care is taken after the animal is harvested to ensure that the hides are kept in great condition to hand over to the taxidermists. We have on-site cold storage facilities and our own power supply.

Travelling Essentials & The Transport of Firearms & Bows

We advise you to bring your own weapons and ammunition because you’re most familiar with them and will be more comfortable and confident using weapons you know.
