Reminiscent of some arid regions in the southwestern United States, picture expansive plains dotted with low shrubs, rocky outcrops, and sparse vegetation, along with undulating hills and thick river frontages. The Boesmans River flows from west to east in the rainy season and offering wildlife pools of water in the drier months.
Guided by our experienced professional hunters and trackers, you’ll traverse this terrain on foot, getting to know it as only a hunter can.
At the end of your stay with us, certain spots will have a particular meaning: that gulley where you spotted your first Cape buffalo, the river valley where you harvested a perfect kudu bull. That ridge where you sipped on a sundowner and watched the land turn gold.
Hunters can harvest up to 25 species of wildlife at Ubuninzi Game Lodge. The animals roam the ranch freely, making use of the ever-changing landscape as they feed, reproduce, and repose. In addition to these sought-after hunting species this area of the Eastern Cape is home to diverse birdlife. Among the most common species are the vibrant Southern red bishop, the melodious Cape robin-chat, and the striking African hoopoe. These feathered residents thrive in our varied habitats. We also regularly see endemic species, such as the blue crane, South Africa’s national bird, the Cape parrot, pale chanting goshawks and martial eagles.
The landscape is an ever-changing mosaic of plant life made up predominantly of Albany Thicket. You’ll experience it as low mountain ridges and hills dominated by dwarf shrubland with trees such as Karoo shepherd tree, common guarri, jacket plum, Karoo boer-bean and dwarf shrubs such as Bitterbush and Kwaggakweek grass. There are pockets of Suurberg Quartzite Fynbos especially on south-facing slopes and large expanses of open grassland.
Non-hunting partners, friends or kids are welcome at Ubuninzi. We provide many opportunities beyond the hunt for relaxation, adventure, fun and an authentic African wildlife safari.
